As an Assistant Traffic Engineer in our traffic group, you will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer (PE) and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) to assist multidisciplinary project teams across the public and private sectors.

In this role you will be exposed to the full spectrum of traffic operations, traffic safety, and transportation projects including traffic forecasting and modeling, intersection and signal design, safety studies, ADA and trail design, and planning studies. You will have the opportunity to develop safe, efficient, and reliable transportation systems that will serve all modes of travel within our communities and the country for years to come. To be successful you will need to be capable and interested in learning a variety of new skills through both mentorship and independent review of multiple documents from national best practices to client-specific standards. You will have to think critically to apply those standards to the given project to develop exceptional quality construction plans and effectively communicate the methods and results through presentations, memos, and reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required or bachelor's degree in civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required.

  • Master's in civil engineering or related field preferred.

  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

  • Basic knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques, principles and procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Basic computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and civil analysis programs.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
