Burns & McDonnell is looking for an energetic Senior Mechanical Engineer with a high level of initiative to engage in projects with a focus on federal facility and infrastructure projects for the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Defense (DOD). The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in DOE and/or DoD facility projects and specialized facility HVAC, Controls, and mechanical system design experience.

Initial responsibilities will involve mechanical design on multi-discipline project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects including process, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.

  • Perform mechanical and plumbing design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: , process facilities, industrial facilities, , airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.

  • Design mechanical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.

  • Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers.

  • Lead the mechanical project team to meet designated schedule and budget and provide quality deliverables including drawings, specifications, reports, and calculations.

  • Compile information for client presentations, and lead mechanical discussion during design Charrette and client review meetings.

  • Update drawings to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.

  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, airports, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.

  • Performs field inspections, for public and private clients.

  • Communicate with DOE client regarding Change Orders, Schedule, and Contract Administration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program.

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may be substituted for 1-year experience.

  • 8 years of mechanical engineering experience, consulting preferred.

  • PE license in Mechanical Engineering

  • Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE or DoD Security Clearance.
