Burns & McDonnell Corporate Field Safety Manager in Appleton, Wisconsin


* SumSummary:* Provide technical and professional training and support to the field safety team, to ensure compliance with safety processes and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Acts as main liaison between customers and jobsite contacts, including subcontractor safety representatives, government agencies (MSHA, OSHA, etc.) and Burns & McDonnell safety and project representatives.

  • Responsible for site safety office and field planning and executing contractual obligations.

  • Present project Safety program progress, challenges, and objectives to Corporate Safety and project stakeholders.

  • Present safety and health information to the Corporate Safety team to ensure that the project safety program is being implemented effectively and required safety compliance has been documented.

  • Conduct regular health and safety performance reviews, assessments, and complete documentation to verify that site is in compliance with Corporate and regulatory requirements.

  • Understands project scope of work and identifies potential hazards and makes changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness.

  • Development and determination of department goals and objectives; works with Safety & Health Director to determine best means of implementation and provides feedback as to success and challenges.

  • Understand and believe in Zero Injury approach to safety.

  • Direct, plan, implement and supervise corporate and jobsite safety programs ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.

  • Establish, track and maintain safety records, training and files.

  • Manage, supervise and develop safety staff.

  • Formally present safety topics to owners, supervision and management.

  • Conduct job reviews to ensure AZCO supervision is performing AZCO’s safety programs.

  • Audit documentation; proactively participate in jobsite walk-throughs to view safety behaviors.

  • Follow up with management to address safety concerns and determine necessary corrections.

  • Manage safety staffing requirements for job sites.

  • Assists in the recruiting of site safety representatives and maintains relationships throughout recruiting process. Coordinates with the field operations and human resources departments to select candidates based on skills, abilities and leadership.

  • Create, coordinate, and conduct trainings as needed or requested.

* Supervisory Responsibilities:*

Will monitor field safety team members productivity and effectiveness and provide constructive feedback and coaching. Ensure their understanding of duties and responsibilities.

* Education and/or Experience:*

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction Management or similar field; minimum of eight years related heavy industrial experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • CHST or ASP is required

  • OSHA 30 and OSHA 500 required

* Computer Skills:*

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Explorer Internet Software; MS Excel Spreadsheet software and MS Word Processing Software.

* Other Qualifications:*

  • Proven leadership and supervision skills

  • Effective problem solving skills

  • Must be detail oriented

  • Must demonstrate time management and prioritizing skills

  • Must be able to understand OSHA regulations and assist with OSHA Inspections for Investigation

  • Working knowledge of Workers Compensation and case management

* Travel:*

Must be available to travel and visit jobsites and fabrication shops to conduct walk-throughs, training, staff development, or as a result of needs of the jobsite. Travel is required approximately 60% of time, to include overnight stays.
