Burns & McDonnell 1898 & Co. Mid-Atlantic Regional Global Practice Manager in Arlington, Virginia


This Arlington, VA based position is responsible for the strategic development and overall leadership of 1898 & Co. in the Mid-Atlantic region. Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for maintaining Burns & McDonnell Safety program.

  • Management of 1898 & Co. market segments including Business Consulting, Technology Consulting, Compliance & Critical Infrastructure Protection, and Physical and Cyber Security services.

  • Grow the practice in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell and 1898 & Co. core values of client satisfaction, entrepreneurship, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

  • Develops and executes a long-term strategic plan.

  • Identifies, develops and directs the implementation of business strategies for the practice, including operational strategies and procedures, marketing strategies and pricing strategies, and business development and client retention strategies. Must be able to maximize profit on projects with remarkable success for our clients. Achieves stated targets and standards for financial performance.

  • Responsible for the recruitment, development and retention of staff; mentor staff for division growth; train staff through internal and external resources.

c. Leadership by example. Responsible for reviewing resource requirements with Department

and Section Managers and help obtain necessary resources

  • Manages and executes projects that meet or exceed client expectations for quality, schedule and budget.

  • Plans, coordinates, communicates and facilitates activities of several disciplines on projects of all sizes from conception through completion. Successful completion of projects by collaborating and coordinating with internal and external clients.

  • Initiates or assists in business development, proposal strategy and contract negotiations; responsible for coordinating project planning including scoping, budgeting, maintaining schedules, communicating and managing deadlines and establishing and performing to critical project objectives.

  • Interface directly and collaborate with 1898 & Co. leadership in WHQ and other ROs

  • Serves as Legal and HR liaison

  • Responsible for strategic client development

  • Direct management of 1898 & Co. department section managers

  • Responsible for adherence to the Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.

  • Responsible for all indicators that ultimately contribute to department’s profitability performance:

a. Sales

b. Revenue

c. Billable time

d. Project effective labor multiplier

e. Office overhead costs

f. Equity charges / invoicing management

g. Red flags and warning flags

h. Backlog trends

i. Net Income

j. Net Income per average FTE



  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, computer science, business, or related field from an accredited curriculum. Graduate degree preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of professional and/or management experience preferred. Experience must include business development, project planning and execution, staff development and mentoring, financial management, and client coordination.

  • Consulting experience preferred.

  • Must have ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of government, industry, and public contracts on project and business development matters. Excellent written & verbal communication skills and ability to process and manage project financial data.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Professional Registrations and Certifications preferred.
