Burns & McDonnell Section Manager - Transmission (Multiple Locations) in Atlanta, Georgia

Description

This position is responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of the Transmission Line Section working directly with the T&D Regional Manager. The ideal candidate can sit in our Atlanta, Charlotte, or Chattanooga office. Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties as assigned by T&D Regional Manager and other senior management:

  • Advocating for safety within the group.

  • Advocating for quality and ensure that the corporate and T&D quality plans and initiatives are implemented, including coordinating with the appropriate teams to assign quality control reviewers.

  • Training, developing, mentoring, and career-development of the staff; coordinating training needs and requirements with the T&D Regional GP Manager.

  • Recruiting top-talent as well as the engagement and retention of staff; guide staff on career development.

  • Coordinating work for the Section including making assignments and reviewing performance in order to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff. Supporting overall Regional Office development and resource coordination between GPs.

  • Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with Atlanta leadership and T&D practice leadership.

  • Collaborate with Transmission Department & Section Managers in other Regional Offices and WHQ; represent Atlanta Office in GP-wide transmission meetings.

  • Interpreting policies, procedures, and goals of organization to staff.

  • Serve as project manager for key technical projects where required, and where new business is being developed.

  • Serve as the technical advisor, providing senior-level input and evaluation on transmission line engineering projects.

  • Assisting in the development and execution of the Atlanta T&D Business Plan.

  • Facilitating profitable and sound growth of the Section; responsible for the attainment of sales, revenue, and net-profit goals for the Section, including meeting billability and utilization goals.

  • Monitor progress on projects and provide input into areas of concern and direction or redirection to enhance achievement of project schedules, productivity goals, budgets, and quality.

  • Preparing and monitoring the section budget and expenditure of funds for staffing hours, supplies, training, and equipment.

  • Supporting Human Resources on educational partnerships and internship programs.

  • Support or lead portions of department meetings; organize and lead section meetings.

  • Advancing and developing Section tools and workflows to increase efficiency of designs, specification development, and project execution.

  • Recommending changes in basic structure and organization of the section to ensure the effective fulfillment of objectives assigned to it.

  • Organizing, leading and conducting the annual performance appraisal process for section staff.

  • Supporting diversity initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.

  • Minimum 5 years related professional experience.

  • Technical ability in transmission line engineering design is required.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

  • Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.

  • Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer.
