Job Information

Burns & McDonnell Lead Mission Critical Manager in Birmingham, United Kingdom


This role will play an integral part in our UK operations and will report to the UK Managing Director, working cross-functionally with other teams to secure and deliver high quality services to our clients. This position will be based in London.


  • Recruit, build and lead the Burns & McDonnell UK Mission Critical team ensuring an efficient and cost-effective utilization of staff

  • Build key relationships with industry professionals. Will track and identify industry and market trends

  • Identify new business opportunities with current and prospective clients

  • Identify new and compelling solutions to customers’ needs that will differentiate Burns & McDonnell and command higher margins

  • Lead client engagement activities at clients’ offices, events and conferences, bringing in technical staff and senior management as required

  • Will be the Burns & McDonnell UK and European Mission Critical technical advisor and will provide senior-level input and evaluation on projects

  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems

  • Collaborate internally with other teams of Burns & McDonnell to maximise opportunities with existing global clients

  • Initial screening of business opportunities, assessing fit to strategy, longer-term potential and financial returns

  • Develop pursuit plans, agreeing pursuit resources, budget and value propositions

  • Enhance organisation reputation by confirming client satisfaction during the pursuit process and into delivery

  • Grow sales to align with strategic direction of the business and profitability metrics agreed in conjunction with leadership

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience leading successful Mission Critical teams and services to clients

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience as Mission Critical Technical Advisor to clients in the UK and Europe

  • Proven ability to build relationships across client organisations

  • Engineering Degree or similar experience in relevant sector

  • This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge to broad areas of assignments. Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills

  • Attention to detail and excellent presentational skills

  • Ability to make an effective and collaborative contribution to the team through sharing knowledge, promoting ideas and valuing the contribution of all team members.
