We have a specific opportunity for an experienced Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Advisor to join our Team.

Provide project & site level advice and guidance on the practical implementation of the company’s heath safety and environmental policies and processes including those of external stakeholders such as regulatory bodies and clients

  • Ensure continued compliance with SHE legislative and regulatory requirements, company policies, processes, standards and procedures (and others as apply) at a project and site level.

  • Provide a source of knowledge, advice and support to the projects and site level on all matters of safety, health and environment and champion the Burns & McDonnell Safety First approach.

  • Work with the SHES Manager to ensure development and implementation of the Integrated Management System, including health, safety and environment.

  • Support project teams with development of project SHE management plans to drive continual improvement.

  • Provide guidance and support in preparation and review of safe systems of work and Risk Assessment and Method Statements.

  • Carry out advisory visits and assurance activity and track actions to completion.

  • Monitor project risk registers and work with design and constructions teams to ensure risks are captured, managed, and mitigated, promoting a safety by design mindset.

  • Carryout and facilitate performance reporting, monitoring, collation and analysis of SHE data, providing recommendations for future measures and actions.

  • Carryout and support SHE incident reporting and investigations.

  • Prepare and facilitate SHE communications, including bulletins, toolbox talks, briefings and training.

  • Promote good and best practices, innovations and lessons learnt across Burns & McDonnell sites and projects.

  • Set standards and lead by example, influencing and inspiring our project teams and supply chain to strive for SHE excellence.

  • Establish, manage and maintain relationships with interested parties, both internal and external.

  • Maintain personal development keeping up to date with knowledge and competency levels in health, safety and environment.

  • Deputise for the Environmental Advisor when they are not on site.


Minimum Requirements

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety

  • A minimum of five (5) years experience in a construction environment, including: strong knowledge of electricity networks construction, HSE and IOSH Standards.

Strongly Recommended

  • Working Knowledge of Electricity in Construction, (Cabling, Transmission, sub stations),

  • Good knowledge of data analysis & risk assessment

  • Strong organisational skills

  • Full driving licence

  • Good working knowledge of CDM Regulations

  • Understanding of Incident Investigation Techniques


  • Chartered or working towards chartership of a relevant professional Institution (e.g. IOSH etc.).

  • National Grid Person Training

  • Experience of delivering presentations, training etc.

  • The ability to thrive in pressure situations.

  • Proactive and Pragmatic approach

  • The ability to empathise, communicate and influence stakeholder and the project Team.

  • Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.

  • A passion for Health & Safety improvement and Sustainable outcomes.

  • Be able to work on own initiative.

  • Computer literate.
