Burns & McDonnell Staff Piping Engineer-Oil, Gas & Chemical (Calgary, AB) in Calgary, Alberta

Description

The Staff Piping Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. The Staff Piping Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting piping plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.

  • Perform piping design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.

  • Design piping components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used piping engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the piping engineering services industry.

  • Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers.

  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.

  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, and commercial, governmental, and military facilities.

  • Performs field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients. - Applies knowledge of commonly used piping engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the piping engineering services industry.- Prepare procurement packages for piping components, valves, pipes- Generate speciality item data sheets , valve data sheets- Develop / use piping material specification

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may be substituted for 1-year experience.

  • 3 years of mechanical piping engineering experience, consulting preferred.

  • Any exposure to stress analysis piping engineering will be added advantage

  • Canadian project experience in piping engineering is preferred - Experience in piping data management (3D data) will be preferred

  • Successful completion (i.e. passing) FE or EIT preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work for the company.Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e. without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
