Burns & McDonnell Staff Structural Engineer - Oil, Gas, & Chemical in Calgary, Alberta

Description

The Staff Civil Engineer will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including power, process facilities, corporate, industrial, and manufacturing. The Staff Civil Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.

  • Perform civil and structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, process facilities, and industrial facilities.

  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used civil and Structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the civil engineering services industry.

  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the Civil and Steel packages design of power and process facilities.

  • Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.

  • Able to coordinate with high value engineering centers.

  • Review vendor packages affecting steel design.

  • Able to work independently as area lead to design civil and structures within the area or as required by project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an accredited program and 3 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required or

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an accredited program and 3 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required or

  • Master Degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred. Required

  • Strong knowledge in standard civil and structural engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, Teckla, Smart plant 3D, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, RISA-3D).

  • Professional Engineering, P. Eng. from Alberta or any other province in Canada.

  • Previous experience working in Alberta or Canada project.
