Burns & McDonnell Assistant Pipeline Designer - Pipelines (Chicago) in Chicago, Illinois
Description
Position may include full or partial responsibility of the following assignments
Use of design software to generate pipeline plans, profiles, and details
Produce complete route maps, alignment, profile and workspace from verbal or written description from the design engineer.
Assist in pipeline planning, preparation of construction documentation and environmental plans
Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, survey and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects
Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget and schedule. Perform projects tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
Responsible for the revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information are stored in a logical and well-structured manner.
Responsible for clear and concise written and verbal communications, as it relates to the project client coordination.
Develop and improve processes and tools for effective production
Provide leadership, training and mentoring to less experienced CAD detailers and team members
Qualifications
Associate's degree and five years of related experience or six years of progressive detailing and design experience OR Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field and three years related experience.
Advanced understanding of design software: Microstation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Excel to develop design deliverables. Preference for familiarity with CADWorx and Plant 3D.
Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs
Advanced ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings
Knowledge in the theory and practices of engineering discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks
Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives
