Burns & McDonnell Civil Roadway Engineer - Transportation in Chicago, Illinois

This particular position is looking for and engineer based in the Chicagoland area who brings experience in one of the key transportation clients: IDOT, The Illinois Tollway and CDOT. Knowing the agency standards and possessing client contacts is a plus along with modeling experience.
Work with a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians in the design of roadway transportation projects, or related linear civil project work.
Performs tasks requiring applications of standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
Standard design of civil project work.
Assist team leaders (PM’s) with various project duties.
Serve as a team member on multidisciplined projects.
Works with senior staff on technical aspects of a project.
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a preferred emphasis in civil roadway transportation engineering.
Experience level: 3 years required, 4 to 10 years preferred, working in the related civil roadway transportation industry.
Experience to include the development of contract documents as it relates to drawings and specifications.
Candidate must be on track to obtain licensure or be licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
Ability to work as a part of a multi-discipline teams of engineers
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and presentation skills
Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines while working on multiple projects concurrently.
Knowledge of the Highway Capacity Manual, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, etc.
Knowledge of design software including MicroStation, Autocad, Excel and Word.
Experience or desire to get involved in business development via external meetings and/or proposal support for research and technical writing.
