Description

The CHI NIA Project Development Manager is responsible for the development of the NIA business line project management group and the overall processes and procedures for project execution. The NIA Project Development Manager will supervise developing project managers in coordination with the Business Line Manager. The Project Development Manager will closely engage with the office leadership and the individual team management to create and support more effective and efficient staff development and project performance. This position will be based in Chicago and will report to the NIA Business Line Manager.

Specific areas of responsibility include:

Organizational:

  • Create, manage, develop, and improve project management processes and procedures.

  • Coordinate with CHI business lines on project manager training and development.

  • Work with the department, business line, and office management to facilitate the assignment of project management teams.

  • Support and lead project development initiatives within the NIA department.

Business Development:

  • Support and recommend on go/no-go decisions in collaboration with Business Line Manager. Prepare analysis on go/no-go decisions to advise staff.

  • In consultation with the Business Line Manager, review and approve budgets and schedules for proposal efforts, including determining appropriate compensation arrangements and financial performance metrics for the projects.

Personnel:

  • Manage, develop, and improve developing project management personnel. Project managers in training will report directly to this role.

  • Manage engagement of third-party support on projects including subcontractors and BMI.

  • Identify and recommend employee-owners to enter the project management career path as PMITs and make recommendations for promotion to Project Manager.

  • Develop staff to pursue and capture projects including making proposals and presentations.

  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for direct reports.

  • Advocate for staff by meeting regularly, listening to their short- and long-term goals and providing guidance, direction, and facilitation of opportunities to meet those goals.

  • Work with Chicago department management team on recruitment, hiring and onboarding of project manager personnel.

Technical/Execution/Production:

  • Advise staff on project development including scope, budget, schedule, and resources.

  • Drive Q1 and Q2 adherence, including participating in Q1 and Q2 reviews as needed.

  • Complete monthly project status reviews with NIA project management team.

  • Advance and develop department tools and workflows to increase efficiency of project management, engineering designs, specification development, and project execution.

  • Work closely with the NIA Business Line Manager to oversee financial success of the NIA department including monthly review and cleanup of project financials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related degree from an accredited program.

  • A minimum of 10 years relevant consulting experience, preferably in engineering design and/or project management, consulting, or program management.

  • Licensed professional engineer or project management professional preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and team development.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including EcoSys, Microsoft Project, PowerBI, and other data modeling systems.

  • Demonstrated financial success on completed projects.

  • Demonstrated experience in project management including planning, project execution, design team coordination and communication, budgeting, schedule management, safety, quality and client coordination.

  • Demonstrated experience in client and business development.
