Burns & McDonnell Senior Project Manager - Roadway Design in Chicago, Illinois

Description

Our Chicago, IL regional office is seeking to hire a Senior Project Manager within our growing Transportation Global Practice to support highway and municipal roadway projects.

  • Candidate will be someone with excellent client interaction skills and DOT relationships who can manage and lead design teams specializing in Phase II delivery but experience and a comfort level with Phase I preferred.

  • Incumbent will have experience successfully delivering projects for major clients in the Chicagoland area including IDOT and the Illinois Tollway.

  • In this position, you will be a key part of a seller/doer team and manage all aspects of engineering projects from business development, scope and fee development, staffing plan development, project oversight, quality management and financial performance responsibilities.

  • Typical projects include highway expansion, capacity improvements and municipal roadway projects. Experience in alternate delivery / design-build is a plus but not required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

  • Minimum 15 years' related experience in the development or management of roadway engineering projects.

  • Candidate must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Illinois.

  • Advanced experience in project management, contract negotiations, project planning, scheduling, team coordination & communication, budgeting, and client management.

  • General business and financial calculation knowledge

  • Proven ability to lead and develop multi-discipline teams of engineers

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and presentation skills

  • Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines while managing multiple projects concurrently, including identification of critical path items to ensure deliverable deadlines

  • Ability to focus on the big picture to effectively and efficiently provide services that meet client needs.

  • Willingness to learn new service offerings as client needs and the market requires changes to the service offerings provided by our group

  • Willingness to cross-sell other services offered by other Burns & McDonnell divisions outside the project manager’s core set of services in

  • Experience working with transportation clients such as DOTs, cities, counties, private developers, and railroads.
