Burns & McDonnell Transportation Design & Operation Department Manager in Chicago, Illinois

Description

Responsible for the managerial direction of the Design & Operations Department within the Civil Transportation Division in the Chicagoland area. The position will have oversight of roadway and bridge design and operations that would direct staff accordingly. Providing work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of the team. Responsible for recruitment, development and retention of staff. Interpret policies, purposes, and goals of organization to staff. Serves as the technical advisor, provides senior-level input and evaluation on projects. Will demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems. Determines program objectives and requirements, organizes projects and develops standards and guidelines. Summary of key duties:

Key Organization Oversight Areas:

  • Business Development: Pursuit and proposal management, client coordination, overall engagement plan. Clients will vary from DOT’s, Toll Authorities to local counties and municipalities.

  • Staffing Assignments: Manage all staff to the highest efficiency and strengths.

  • Quality Assurance: Work with quality manager to refine, manage and enforce QA/QC plan.

  • Performance Reviews and Career Development: 1 on 1 reviews and directly evaluating staff capabilities.

  • Project Management: Mentor PM’s on project management.

  • Financial Management: Work with upper management to set, monitor and achieve financial performance metrics.

  • Contract Reviews: Oversight of all new contract reviews.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or related field from accredited program. Minimum 8 years related professional experience. Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments. Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered. Previous consulting experience preferred.
