Burns & McDonnell Transportation Electrification Section Manager - Networks, Integration, and Automation (Chicago) in Chicago, Illinois

Description

The Transportation Electrification (TE) Section Manager is responsible for the growth of the TE team within our Chicago office. This individual will be responsible for developing the CHI Transportation Electrification business strategy, leading the business development efforts with target clients, building an execution team, and coordinating with project management team.

Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties assigned as needed:

Business Development

  • Identify key target clients, including electric utilities & fleet operators, and develop client engagement plan for business development activities. Work with appropriate personnel on the development and administration of the national Transportation Electrification business plan.

  • Identify and pursue Transportation Electrification opportunities for the Chicago Regional Office and associated Branch offices.

  • Lead the proposal development and review of all CHI Transportation Electrification pursuits. In collaboration with the national team and CHI NIA Business Line Manager, develop pricing, execution methodology, and recommendations on go/no-go decisions.

  • Establish Burns & McDonnell’s position in the regional Transportation Electrification Market through strategic planning and business plan development with a focus on continued growth in market share, profitable growth, and a great work environment.

  • Oversee the development of strong, work-winning relationships with key Transportation Electrification stakeholders at current and prospective clients.

  • Provide oversight for the pursuit process including “go/no-go” decisions, win strategies, proposal staffing, development of pricing, contract terms and conditions, and risk-reviews.

Organizational

  • Work with the Business Development and Account Management personnel for the development and administration of client and project capture plans.

  • Provide project management for Transportation Electrification projects executed in Chicago as needed, including management of scope, schedule, and key financial metrics.

  • Facilitate collaboration with national Transportation Electrification team and other regional offices to coordinate business plans and assist in the pursuit of opportunities.

  • Adhere to and promote Burns & McDonnell’s safety programs, training, and policies for all Transportation Electrification projects and well as the promotion and management of the Safety & Health performance of the project team members.

Personnel

  • Coordinate with Chicago leadership and the national Transportation Electrification team to drive recruitment and development of staff needed to grow the Transportation Electrification Team.

  • Conduct performance evaluation for selected direct reports and participate in evaluations of other staff as required.

  • Coordinate with Chicago leadership team to drive the training and development of project management, business development, and client management skillsets within the team.

  • Coordinate with Transportation Electrification Resource Manager on resource management and personnel training and development.

  • Provide management and career development of Transportation Electrification personnel.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years related professional experience in Transportation Electrification and proven experience developing new clients and opportunities.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant experience.

  • Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer or Project Management Professional is preferred.

  • Strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and analytical/problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Proven planning, organizing, and execution skills.

  • Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • A basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is required.
