Burns & McDonnell Data Center Design Lead - Networks, Integration, and Automation (Columbus) in Columbus, Ohio


Burns & McDonnell’s Columbus, OH office is looking for a Data Center Design Lead specializing in data center cable/conduit routing, equipment rack layouts, wired and wireless communications and floor plans to support multiple hyper scale data center projects in their Networks, Integration & Automation department.

The Data Center Design Lead work on an integrated design team within our Networks, Integration & Automation practice to perform the following duties:

  • Bringing design requirements from concept to detailed design based on coordination with clients and cross functional engineering teams.

  • Incorporate schedules, budgets and project criteria into physical design and layouts.

  • Write and review design standards and specifications.

  • Create, review and maintain specifications and bill of materials against contractor submittals.

  • Work closely with engineering project teams and field personnel to complete and review projects within scope, budget and schedule.

  • Direct designs, sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects.

  • Assist with analyzing reports, drawings, and calculations.

  • Incorporate schedules, budgets and project criteria into physical design and layouts.

  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.


  • Five years related data center experience required.

  • Current BICSI RCDD certification preferred.

  • Working knowledge in cable/conduit routing, equipment rack layouts, wired and wireless communications, floor plans and data center projects required.

  • Ability to professionally interact with clients, lead project calls, and direct team mates on design requirements required.

  • Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects required.

  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit is preferred.

  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience utilizing BIM 360, Navisworks, Revit work sets, view templates and project phasing.

  • AutoCAD experience is preferred.

  • Ability to multitask in a fast pace, deadline driven work environment.

  • Ability to thrive in a multi discipline team setting.

  • Field experience with hyper scale data centers, fiber optic and CATEGORY cabling is preferred.

  • Strong project management skills are preferred.
