Burns & McDonnell Senior Environmental Engineer- Water (Dallas, TX) in Dallas, Texas


Burns & McDonnell is a 100% employee owned company with a 123 year history in the water/wastewater business. Our Dallas office is looking for a talented employee owner to serve as a Senior Environmental Engineer to support our municipal water/wastewater process departments.

Skills at a minimum should include:

  • Strong project engineering history with a proven record of building strong client relationships.

  • Strong technical capabilities with the development of contract documents including a thorough understanding of all engineering concepts related to municipal water/wastewater treatment facility and pumping facilities design and construction.

  • Experience with permitting of water/wastewater facilities through local, state, and federal regulators.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Strong commitment to working in a team environment.

  • Attention to detail and company quality control procedures.


  • The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering from an accredited program with a water or civil curriculum focus.

  • This position requires at least 7 years related experience (completion of a master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year experience) with design and construction administration of water/wastewater treatment and pumping projects. Strong analytical and problem solving skills along with excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.

  • The successful candidate must be capable of executing all phases of projects including planning, preparation of specifications & drawings, construction administration and field observation on occasion.

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.

  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

  • Ability to travel.
