Burns & McDonnell Staff Transmission Designer - Transmission (Dallas/Fort Worth) in Dallas, Texas

Description

A Staff Transmission Designer will work with Transmission Line Engineers to support and lead various phases of planning, proposal preparation, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of construction documentation and transmission plans as part of a project team. This position will support various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.

  • Support and lead design of various transmission projects including greenfield transmission lines, transmission line upgrades and transmission line relocations and reterminations.

  • Able to effectively work in a team environment to develop 3D transmission line models in PLS-CADD.

  • Development of hardware designs and creation of bill of material for high voltage overhead transmission line projects.

  • Perform drawing production work to prepare construction drawings and specifications for high voltage overhead transmission lines.

  • Support the quality review of designs, drawings and mark-ups on ongoing projects.

  • Effectively communicate and present designs, drawings, calculations, and plans to the project team.

  • Assist with ad hoc projects and assignments as assigned by Project Managers and Project Leads.

  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field and seven years related experience or associate's degree and eight years related experience or nine years progressive detailing and design experience.

  • Expert understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables.

  • Expert knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.

  • Expert knowledge in the theory and practices of civil discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
