Burns & McDonnell Staff GIS Specialist - Environmental Services (Denver) in Denver, Colorado

Description

The Staff Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist will develop, update, analyze, and manage GIS data for a wide variety of professional services. This position will perform a variety GIS analysis, GIS data development, GIS data maintenance and data preparation for use in GIS systems and regularly communicate project status to our clients, as client service is a key component of the Staff GIS Specialist position.

The Staff GIS Specialist will work closely within functional teams to deliver GIS data and GIS services to our clients, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, customer commitment, sense of urgency, and continuous improvement.

  • Provide GIS data and mapping deliverables for both internal and external project teams.

  • Develop technical specifications, project approach, cost estimates and schedules. Work closely with the client to meet project deliverables.

  • Remain current on all GIS product changes, including coordinating often with the broader GIS community within Burns & McDonnell.

  • Help develop new processes for data management, project database setup, and post-project data closeout and delivery.

  • Continue to develop the use of ArcGIS Online (AGO) for our projects and remain current on new AGO developments.

  • Perform GIS mapping and data collection tasks on projects.

  • Utilize various software packages and information from various sources (CAD, MS Excel spreadsheets, KMZ, or scanned documents such as deeds, field notes etc.) to create GIS maps to support field personnel as well as for deliverables.

  • Responsible for developing and recommending GIS system needs and requirements and implementing improved work methods and quality control of deliverables.

  • Mentor and train junior-level staff.

  • Focus on quality and consistency for all GIS products.

  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, environmental science, or closely related natural science field, with master's degree in similar field a plus. Applicable years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working in a professional (not academic)

  • ArcGIS desktop including ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro environment is required. (ArcGIS Pro 2.8 or higher a plus).

  • Strong GIS skills, including data analysis abilities.

  • Experience writing or modifying python scripts to automate GIS processes or build custom tools and applications.

  • Experience working in the ArcGIS Online Environment, publishing, sharing data, creating web maps and web apps.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.

  • Prior GPS and applicable natural science field experience a plus.

  • Experience writing or modifying python scripts to automate GIS processes a plus.

  • Preferred experience utilizing GIS for linear routing and site selection analysis, specifically for the renewables energy sector.

  • Preferred experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and it's required GIS analysis.

Compensation Range

$90,000 - $125,000

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
