Burns & McDonnell’s regional operation in Chicago (downtown Chicago & Downers Grove, IL) is looking for a Senior Environmental Air Specialist to lead air permitting and compliance services to the power, industrial, commercial, transportation and manufacturing industries. The Senior Environmental Air Specialist will work within our Environmental Services Global Practice and perform the following duties:
Lead preparation of air permit application packages.
Provide technical consulting expertise and lead junior staff on air quality impact analyses.
Lead staff in environmental compliance audits FOR or TO.
Develop air dispersion modeling using Environmental Protection Agency approved modeling programs such as AERMOD.
Oversee environmental site assessments and inspections to ensure compliance with local, state and federal air quality requirements.
Verify accuracy of emission calculations and estimates for routine emissions as well as maintenance, startup and shutdown emissions.
Lead preparation of technical reports and technical specifications FOR.
Oversee field assessments FOR.
Prepare and present site investigation proposals including scope of work, estimated cost and schedule.
Develop cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff.
Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
Prepare and present client and professional meeting presentations.
Manage sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
Ensure compliance with company and sit safety policies.
All other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or a related degree from an accredited program. Minimum 8 years applicable experience showing proficiency in air pollution permitting and compliance and/or multimedia environmental compliance audits, and environmental management systems.
Completion of a master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
Consulting experience preferred.
Superior technical writing abilities.
Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local air regulations with emphasis on the Clean Air Act, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, Title V Permitting, Title VI Ozone Depleting Substances.
Expert experience in air quality dispersion models such as AERMOD, AERSCREEN, CALPUFF, VISCREEN, PLUVUE and SLAB.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors, co-workers, and other professionals.
Expert analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent project management skills.
Expert oral and written communication skills, technical writing skills and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Expert in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
