Burns & McDonnell Staff Sustainability Specialist - Environmental Services (Multiple Locations) in Duluth, Minnesota

Description

Burns & McDonnell is looking for a Staff Sustainability Specialist to assist with sustainability consulting and climate action planning opportunities across Burns and McDonnell’s wide range of clients.

  • Support implementation of sustainability, environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) consulting services for our clients. This includes strategy development, materiality assessments, establishment of metrics (including Science Based Targets), and interpretation of existing climate disclosures.

  • Work with a team of engineers, scientists and stakeholder engagement specialists to develop sustainable projects to meet our client’s goals.

  • Assist with preparing training, marketing materials, and thought leadership to broaden knowledge of sustainability topics and services both internally and externally.

  • Participate in sustainability planning sessions with our clients and assist with plans to achieve their net zero, sustainability, ESG and other goals.

  • Provide detailed information and advise on various climate disclosure frameworks for clients’ sustainability goals and reporting.

  • Understanding of current sustainability challenges within private and public sector clients with proven track record of providing solutions.

  • Leverage existing relationships to support the growth of sustainability consulting opportunities throughout North America.

  • Assist with proposals and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads.

  • Build and support relationships with regulatory entities, vendors and product/service companies.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in sustainability, environmental policy, climate change, planning, environmental engineering, or related field. Master's Degree optional.

  • 4 years of experience (5 years preferred) in sustainability consulting or community climate action planning.

  • Certification or accreditation in sustainability is a plus.

  • Experienced with the implementation of sustainability programs such as energy, air emissions, waste, and water.

  • Good broad understanding of sustainability topics including climate resilience, emerging technologies and renewables, zero waste planning, net-zero and implementation.

  • Knowledge of GHG Protocol and experience with climate disclosure frameworks and standards (SASB, TCFD, GRI, SBTi).

  • Experienced in performing exciting informative presentations and having an open dialogue with clients.

  • Experience with supporting business development efforts such as proposals and cost estimates.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
