Burns & McDonnell Project Manager - Transportation Planning & Policy in Fort Worth, Texas


Burns & McDonnell has an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager in the Planning & Policy Department of the Transportation Global Practice. The Department supports the Transportation Global Practice, working with private sector and public sector clients. This position works under the guidance of a Section Manager and will have the opportunity to work in the areas of planning, policy, public involvement, stakeholder engagement and strategic communications.

Job Duties

  • This position works with Section Manager to manage multiple projects varying in size and complexity, associated with outreach, public policy, emerging technology platforms and strategic business planning.

  • Ensuring projects are delivered on time and on budget and meet or exceed client expectations. Demonstrates creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.

  • Organizes staff and projects for success.

  • Leads engagement/communication project scoping, cost estimating, planning, and budget tracking.

  • Identifies opportunities and provides input and evaluation on major pursuits and projects.

  • Develops new and manages existing client relationships, while interfacing with the client for proposal and project related items.

  • Oversees the training of project teams, coordinate activities of multiple global practices/disciplines, and facilitate the efficient cost-effective utilization of staff while adhering to contractual and performance requirements.

  • Presents to internal and external executive management as required.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in planning, communications, business administration, public relations/political science, marketing, or a related field.

  • Prefer 7 to 10 years of experience in transportation-related field (public involvement, planning, or policy).

  • Prefer minimum of 2 years of project management experience.

  • Experience in public speaking, as well as developing and editing content for proposals, articles, collateral, technical reports, high level messaging, speech writing, and presentations required.

  • Experience in managing large events and providing direction to creative staff is preferred.

  • Position will primarily work for our transportation group but could also be involved with projects for other global practices
