Burns & McDonnell Project Manager – Water Distribution & Collection Systems in Fort Worth, Texas

Description

This position will be responsible for developing, managing and coordinating activities related to municipal stormwater and green infrastructure projects as part of the Water group for the Texas region. The position is envisioned as a seller-doer role, and will involve travel throughout Texas and the surrounding region as necessary to accomplish the objectives of the business. The position will also include activities related to the developing and assisting expansion of the firm’s current municipal stormwater and green infrastructure practice in terms of areas of service and expertise, with collaboration across the regions other global practices as well as collaboration with expertise in Kansas City and other locations. Ideally, this role will help to develop a core stormwater group for the Texas region.

Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties as assigned by senior management:

  • Manage multiple discipline teams for the planning and implementation of green infrastructure within highly urbanized areas.

  • Assist with marketing activities related to specific markets, clients or prospects.

  • Plan, organize and direct project(s); including, the overall safety, cost, schedule and quality of assigned projects.

  • Consult and assist clients with development of concepts, designs and project deliverables.

  • Provide managerial direction and work assignments.

  • Initiate and assist in contract negotiations and preparation.

  • Establish project teams, coordinate activities of multiple disciplines, ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.

  • Provide performance feedback to department managers for project team members as appropriate.

  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with prospective and existing clients.

  • Identify opportunities and manage team efforts for submittals, proposals, presentations, contract negotiation, and related activities.

  • Write articles and/or make conference presentations for marketing purposes.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field from accredited program. Minimum 20 years related experience in stormwater projects, including five or more years of green infrastructure planning and design experience. Previous consulting engineering experience and Professional Engineer registration is required. Master’s degree in engineering or related field preferred. Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) certifications preferred.

This position requires:

  • Broad knowledge of stormwater and green infrastructure systems in urban areas in the State of Texas .

  • Proven ability to develop business and establish relationships with clients.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated success in project management.

  • Proficiency in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
