Burns & McDonnell TX Water/Wastewater Practice Leader - Municipal (Dallas/Fort Worth) in Fort Worth, Texas

Description

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a municipal water/wastewater practice leader to develop a new market in the Dallas/Fort Worth Region. Burns & McDonnell has served municipal water clients since 1898 and is a market leader in capital project delivery, including design, design-build, EPC, CM, CMAR, and program management across a broad spectrum of industries. Focus areas in water/wastewater include water resources, water/wastewater treatment, conveyance, collection, and distribution systems, and sustainable stormwater systems for municipal and industrial clients across the nation.

While Burns & McDonnell is new to the municipal water market in Texas, the firm has established offices in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Midland-Odessa, and San Antonio with over 1,000 employee-owners in Texas serving multiple markets. Burns & McDonnell has active design and program management contracts for municipal clients in surrounding states, has design and design-build activities underway for several industrial water/wastewater projects in Texas, and has self-perform construction capability in the Texas market, currently performing water projects in adjacent states.

Municipal Water/Wastewater Practice Leader

The DFW Water Practice Lead is responsible for strategy development and overall leadership of Burns & McDonnell’s water/wastewater practice in the Dallas/Fort Worth regional office and the surrounding region. While the position reports directly to Burns & McDonnell’s Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Office, the position requires significant coordination and collaboration with Burns & McDonnell’s Water Global Practice and Construction Design-Build Global Practice in the development of the water/wastewater market within the region. Specific areas of responsibility include the following:

  • Recruit, hire and develop outstanding employee-owners.

  • Position Burns & McDonnell as a market leader in capital project delivery, including design, design-build, EPC, CM, CMAR, and program management.

  • Create and cultivate key relationships with clients, competitors, vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

  • Identify and develop target municipal clients in Texas, adjacent states, and the surrounding region.

  • Identify target opportunities that fit Burns & McDonnell’s project profile and resume.

  • Facilitate sales strategy and lead pre-sell and sales activities.

  • Lead contract negotiations and risk management activities.

  • Develop project teams to execute projects under budget and ahead of schedule.

  • Build an organization focused on exceeding client expectations.

  • Achieve sales, revenue, and income goals for the practice.

National Advocate for Project Delivery

This position is also responsible for assisting in the strategic development of Burns & McDonnell’s Global Water Practice at a national scale. The DFW Water Practice Lead will serve on the national practice leadership team and will be a key leader for national objectives related to project delivery objectives, market positioning, national organizations and conferences, and new market penetration.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field from accredited program.

  • Minimum 15 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the execution and management of a service organization serving the municipal marketplace.

  • Experience must include at least 3 years successful management of projects, which would include proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.

  • Consulting experience preferred.

  • This position requires a demonstrated ability to develop business and establish relationships with clients.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, clients and public officials.

  • Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

  • Candidates must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.

  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • An advanced degree and/or professional engineering (PE) license are desirable.

  • Position requires travel as required.
