Burns & McDonnell Construction Quality Manager - Transmission & Distribution (Kansas City/Houston) in Houston, Texas

Description

The Construction Quality Manager is responsible for leadership, direction, management and the execution of the Construction Design Build TND Quality Program for projects in various locations. The Construction Quality Manager assures that installations comply with the applicable plans, codes, standards, specifications and construction practices, including the timely completion and collection of inspection and test reports as required.

  • Effectively understand, communicate, and support implementation of quality requirements for civil, steel, and electrical work scopes surrounding TND and Substations.

  • Collaborate with engineering with regards to specification driven quality requirements and participate in constructability reviews.

  • Establish and communicate project quality requirements to the project management team.

  • Collaborate with the project management team on the set-up and implementation of key processes and application methods. Familiarity with Procore will become essential to providing this assistance to project teams.

  • Develop and issue site construction quality plans including the associated inspection and test matrix based on specifications, codes and jurisidictional requirements.

  • Develop fit for purpose and realistic quality verification documents.

  • Foster innovative and efficient means and methods including tooling to provide meaningful installation and inspections methods.

  • Responsible for coaching, training and mentoring project personnel and field quality managers on the implemented quality program.

  • Responsible for recommendations, enhancements and changes to the Burns & McDonnell CDB Quality Management System.

  • Confirm conditions adverse to quality are identified, documented, disposition and tracked through acceptance and closure.

  • Support the Corrective Action resolution process.

  • Review and confirm compliance of subcontractor Quality submittals and Inspection and Test Plans (ITP's).

  • Perform periodic site assessments of how effectively quality processes are being implemented in the field.

  • Proactively communicate quality opportunities with project sites that do not have day-to-day onsite quality support, including issues or concerns to the project management team.

  • Support project sites in confirming quality metrics are consistently tracked and reported.

  • Support the development of project turn-over packages and confirm they are populated and correspond to project activities.

  • Comply with all Safety & Health requirements and monitors construction activities to ensure adherence to safety standards.

  • Participate in the Task Safety Observations (TSO's) process and define corrective measures for problem areas.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Construction Management.

  • Minimum 10 years related experience managing and implementing quality related activities and processes.

  • Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

  • Thorough understanding of multidiscipline work scopes including Transmission and Distribution and Substation construction.

  • Must be detailed oriented.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Strong computer, communications, and technical writing skills. Procore skills a plus.

Physical:

  • Heavy industrial environment that includes working in adverse climates, and extensive walking with multiple levels requiring stairs, passenger use of personnel hoists, negotiating work areas under construction, climbing permanent and temporary ladders, occasional lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and bending. Specific vision abilities required for this job includes: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
