The Burns & McDonnell Houston, TX regional office is seeking to hire a Senior Chemical Engineer for the Oil, Gas & Chemical Global Practice!

Burns & McDonnell is considered a leading consultant in the crude oil, gas, chemical, and refined product terminals and hydrocarbon process industry. The Mechanical Department executes projects for major oil & gas companies and other industrial clients, including pipeline terminals, pump stations, meter stations, compressor stations, and loading/offloading facilities.

  • Plans, schedules, conducts and co-ordinates work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.

  • Performs process design calculations and develops deliverables such as hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing, facility layout/arrangement, process simulations, Heat and Material Balances (H&MB), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

  • The specification, bid, purchase and vendor drawing reviews to support fabrication of equipment such as pumps, compressors, vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers.

  • Responsible for inter-discipline coordination, drawing reviews, and divisional project studies and report preparation assignments.

  • Regularly meets, corresponds and co-ordinates with vendors.

  • Progressive design and project management responsibilities.

  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members.

  • Regularly meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel.

  • Some marketing responsibilities.

  • May co-ordinate departmental and division project studies and report preparation assignments.

  • This position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or another related engineering degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or another related engineering degree or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in engineering a plus.

  • 7 years of engineering experience.

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • This position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.

  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.

  • Completion of FE exam.

  • Must be proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • Experience in process simulation software (i.e. Hysys and/or Aspen, HTRI) is preferred.

  • Experience in Compressor Stations, Meter/Regulation Stations, Tank Batteries, Pump Stations, and other Pipeline Facilities is preferred.

  • Successful candidate would be experienced in the design and construction of crude oil, gas, chemical, or refined product terminals and/or pipelines, potentially including:

  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards including API 610, 650, 653, ASME B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8, NFPA 30, DOT Part 192, and DOT Part 195

  • Familiarity with crude oil liquids, gases, and chemicals

  • Layout design and details for API storage tanks

  • Design of load racks and associated pumping and piping systems

  • Design of additive storage, supply and blending systems

  • Pipeline hydraulic modeling

  • Pipeline booster pumping stations
