Burns & McDonnell Senior Mechanical Engineer - Static Equipment Emphasis (Houston) in Houston, Texas
Burns & McDonnell's Oil, Gas & Chemical Global Practice in Houston, TX is seeking to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong static equipment experience to support projects in a variety of industry sectors, including the strategic areas of renewable fuels and carbon capture/reduction.
Work to include the execution of complex assignments in the design and specification of pressure vessels, process columns, drums, reactors, filters, coalescers, jacketed vessels, tank and other static equipment; development of vessel data sheets & layouts; Request for Proposal (RFP) packages; technical bid evaluations; conformed specifications for purchase; vendor drawing/submittal review; vendor coordination and supplier quality/inspection coordination.
Help lead the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods related to pressure vessels or other related fixed equipment.
Support front end engineering, as well as detailed design/execution phases.
Coordinate diligently with Process, Piping Design, Piping Engineering, Structural and I&C.
Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings, and data. Interfaces with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers/designers.
Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members.
Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus.
Requires at least 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering in the petrochemical and/or oil & gas Industry.
Completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
Experience should include design, specification, installation/operation of pressure vessels and other fixed equipment whose designs are governed primarily by ASME Section VIII, Divisions 1 and
Experience in a fabrication environment is considered a plus.
PE license preferred. Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications. Familiar with codes/standards: ASME VIII DIV-1/2, ASME II, ASME V, TEMA, ABS 1997, WRC-107/297, AISC, ASCE, ANSI, ASTM, PIP, B31.3., API 660, API-650.
Experienced with COMPRESS or PVElite
Familiar with cyclic load evaluation, fatigue analysis, finite element analysis (FEA),
Occasional travel overseas to perform inspections or monitor project execution.
Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. This position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
Must be capable of working large projects and delegating work tasks to supporting teams.
Must be willing and eligible to obtain or currently hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
