Burns & McDonnell’s Oil, Gas & Chemical global practice is searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a Storage Tanks specialization in its Houston, TX regional office. The Oil, Gas & Chemical global practice works on projects across the industrial spectrum, from gas plants and midstream facilities to refining assets, chemical production plants, and stand-alone storage and logistics facilities. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will support projects in a variety of industry sectors, including the strategic areas of renewable fuels and carbon capture/reduction.

Responsibilities:

  • Specialize in the design and specification of shop fabricated and field erected API aboveground storage tanks, including but not limited to API 650 tanks

  • Prepare technical bid & purchase documents based on process datasheets, client specifications, and industry codes and standards

  • Review vendor equipment bids and prepare technical bid evaluations.

  • Review vendor drawings and other documentation and regularly meet, correspond, and coordinate with equipment vendors

  • Interface and coordinate multiple engineering disciplines to meet project design requirements and effectively manage the internal flow of data and design changes

  • Perform inter-discipline document reviews, such as P&IDs, plot plans, and construction subcontracts

  • Participate in construction planning, bid walks, and scope evaluation

  • Provide mentoring of personnel and additional responsibilities such as the opportunity to oversee execution of the above activities performed by less-experienced engineers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year of experience.

  • 7 years of mechanical engineering experience with the design and specification of shop fabricated and field erected API 650 storage tanks

  • Experience with API 620 and 625 is considered a plus

  • Experience with Geodesic Dome is considered a plus

  • Experience with ASME Sec. VIII Div. 2 Spheres is considered a plus

  • API 653 Tank inspection, repair, and alteration experience is considered a plus

  • Experience with UL142 & UL58 tanks is considered as a plus

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision

  • Previous EPC industry consulting experience and/or tank fabrication and erection experience is considered a plus

  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as ASME, API and PIP

  • TWIC eligible strongly preferred.
