We are seeking a Staff Instrumentation and Controls Engineer for our Oil, Gas & Chemical Global Practice in our Houston, TX office!

  • Assists in Instrument and Controls Engineering design activities for minor to major scale EPC projects in oil refinery, hydrocarbon, and chemical industrial facilities. Responsible for providing Controls Systems and Instrumentation design deliverables for the project(s) in the front end, detailed design, and construction phases.

  • Works with a team of Instrument and Controls Engineers and Designers in the execution of design and interfaces with a multi-discipline project team consisting project manager, controls, estimating and multiple engineering disciplines. Interfaces directly with construction personnel in development of contracts and execution of work.

  • Supports estimating at each project phase through various means, including instrument specifications and bid processes.

  • Works with various software such as Smart Plant Instrumentation, Excel, and Visio to develop design deliverables. Works with clients and vendors directly in developing design, and builds lasting business relationships.

  • Provides leadership and guidance to less experienced staff members.

  • Must be experienced in the development of P&IDs with Process. Experience in the specification of the various types of instruments for flow, pressure, temperature and level is required.

  • Instrumentation and Controls design deliverables include developing instrument specifications, instrument inquiry/purchase packages, instrument index, loops, cause and effect diagrams and logic diagrams.

  • Experience in PLC/DCS specification and configuration, construction and field start up is a plus.

  • Must be willing and eligible to obtain or currently hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Cared (TWIC).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from accredited program.

  • Minimum 3 years instrumentation and Controls experience (completion of Master’s degree in related field may be substituted for one year experience).

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignment.

  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.

  • Previous consulting experience preferred.

  • Professional Engineer preferred.
