Burns & McDonnell Staff Mechanical Engineer - Rotating Equipment - Oil, Gas & Chemical (Houston) in Houston, Texas
We are seeking to hire a Staff Mechanical Engineer within our Oil, Gas & Chemical Global Practice in our Houston, TX regional office!
The Staff Mechanical Engineers to support projects in a variety of industry sectors, including the strategic areas of renewable fuels and carbon capture/reduction.
Primary responsibilities include:
The specification, bid, purchase and installation of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, fans, blowers and mixers, and applicable auxiliary systems.
Auxiliary systems include, lubrication, sealing and machinery protection systems.
Prepare bid & purchase specifications, review vendor drawings.
Must interface with multiple disciplines to meet project design requirements, and have an interest in troubleshooting machinery, and in pre-commissioning & start-up support.
Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
Performs work that involves conventional engineering practices, but may involve a variety of complex features.
Requires general knowledge of precedents in specialty areas and familiarity with basic principles and practices in related specialties.
Responsible for inter-discipline coordination, drawing reviews, and divisional project studies and report preparation assignments.
Regularly meets, corresponds and coordinates with vendors.
Mentoring provided by senior personnel.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
3 years of mechanical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
Successful completion (i.e. passing) FE or EIT preferred.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
Previous consulting experience preferred. Prior operations or maintenance/reliability experience is considered a plus.
Familiarity with design codes and standards such as API, PIP and ASME.
Must be eligible for TWIC.
