JOB TITLE: Staff Transmission Planning Engineer

DUTIES: Execute assignments in the area of electric power system studies involving planning and operations. Analyze power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short circuit, electromagnetic transients, reliability, and economic dispatch associated with transmission congestion management scenarios. Plan, conduct, and coordinate work in the selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning procedures and criteria for transmission planning studies. Perform electric power and transmission planning assignments that involve conventional engineering practices, but may involve a variety of complex features. Perform power system planning and operations, including transient stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis. Perform necessary North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regional assessments, following established requirements and standards. Carry out electrical risk assessment processes and procedures utilizing standard techniques. Execute transmission planning assignments utilizing power system analysis software. Assist with problem-solving electrical power planning engineering fundamental issues, and communicate solutions with other operation departments. Coordinate departmental and divisional project studies and report preparation assignments. Perform power transmission system steady-state and transient stability studies. Review assumptions, methodologies, and models. Perform studies to verify and test solutions to improve system reliability. Review and develop scope of work on study assignments. Prepare both written and oral presentation materials of complex matters in a simplified matter. Travel required up to 20%.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS: Position requires at least a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related quantitative field PLUS two (2) years of experience in the offered role, transmission planning engineering, or another related field or role. Alternatively, will accept a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related quantitative field PLUS three (3) years of experience in the offered role, transmission planning engineering, or another related field or role. Requires experience with power flow or electric market simulation software, such as PSS/E, PSLF, and/or TARA; experience generating study-related subsystems, monitored facility, contingency, and fault idv files; the ability to generate and modify device dynamics models with manufacturer or client data; and knowledge of electric theory and transmission system operations. Travel required up to 20%.
