Burns & McDonnell Assistant Environmental Scientist - Natural & Cultural Resources (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

The Assistant Environmental Scientist will assist with wetland assessments and delineations, vegetative studies, wetland mitigation monitoring, protected species habitat assessments, and task management for construction projects in a variety of locations.

  • Assist with wetland assessments and delineations.

  • Collect and analyze Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data using a Global Positioning System (GPS) and ArcGIS software.

  • Assist with field investigations such as habitat evaluations, endangered plant identification and surveys and soil sampling and classification.

  • Compile and analyze field data to compose technical reports.

  • Provide assistance in utilizing GIS data for map production in accordance with standards and industry best practices.

  • Conduct annual wetland mitigation monitoring and post construction compliance inspections.

  • Research and prepare technical reports, environmental assessments and permitting documents.

  • Gather data and prepare applications for various regulatory approvals.

  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Botany, Soil Science or a related natural science degree from an accredited program required.

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  • Prior internship or natural science field experience preferred.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbal and written technical information.

  • Basic plant identification skills.

  • Basic knowledge of wetlands and aquatic resources

  • Basic knowledge of the environmental permitting process.

  • Basic knowledge of GPS and working in the ArcGIS desktop environment.

  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
