Burns & McDonnell Business Development Director - Transmission & Distribution (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

The Business Development Director is responsible for directing the development and implementation of positioning and persuasion strategies that further the goals of the business group's strategic plan. This position will effectively and efficiently develop new business for the firm, focusing on strategically developing large projects and working with our existing client teams to expand our engineering, architecture and construction business. The Business Development Director will lead the department in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

  • Manage development and execution of overall Business Development strategic business initiatives to achieve goals and objectives.

  • Provide direction and oversight of business development efforts in identification and vetting of prospective clients and projects. Responsible for business development activities aligning with business goals.

  • Provide leadership to marketing team; direct and coordinate marketing efforts ensuring efficient and cost effective utilization of staff.

  • Manage Global Practice business development efforts.

  • Oversee the development of department tools and work flows to increase efficiency in processes, specification development, and project execution for Department.

  • Direct oversight and management of Business Development budget and expenditure of funds.

  • Achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.

  • Provide industry expertise with respect to the competition.

  • Present monthly marketing and business development information to leadership including sales and revenue forecasts.

  • Approve strategies for cross-selling engineering services across the organization.

  • Responsible for ensuring alignment and support of Regional Office staff development.

  • Recruits, hires, develops, and retains outstanding employee-owners.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for selected department or direct reports.

  • Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to staff.

  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Responsible for diversity initiatives.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, marketing or related degree from an accredited program. A minimum of 15 years relevant consulting experience, preferably in A/E industry.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.

  • Expert experience in client and business development.

  • Expert experience in managing business development efforts, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, budgeting, and client coordination.

  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.

  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.

Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
