Burns & McDonnell Business Initiatives Strategist - Transmission & Distribution (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

The Business Initiatives Strategist will lead in the review, construction, and execution of internal business initiatives that tie to the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Global Practice Projects Functional Area. This position will primarily ensure initiatives align with business objectives on time and on budget by tracking milestones, increasing leadership endorsement, and focusing on implementation. Additionally, the Business Initiative Strategist will also lead the efforts of creating robust results-oriented communication and implementation plans for the business initiatives that impact their respective groups of employee-owners.

Job Duties:

  • Lead the creation and implementation of T&D project management and business line initiative strategies and programs.

  • Consult with various T&D employee-owners to identify strategic business opportunities, strategize, implement, and scale programs that address the identified business opportunities. 

  • Lead the efforts to convert project management development focused business initiatives into specific purposes, goals, strategies, milestones, and deliverables. 

  • Lead multiple large, complex initiatives with diverse leadership and stakeholders. 

  • Lead efforts in developing a robust implementation plan for the approved initiatives. 

  • Responsible for the tracking, monitoring, and reporting of initiative metrics. 

  • Lead and present the initiative status of various engagement approaches, impacts, benefits, and barriers to influence adaptation of initiatives. 

  • Lead the integration of marketing components into the business initiative plans.  

  • Lead and present to leadership and stakeholders the evaluation of user readiness. 

  • Lead and present in tracking and reporting challenges during the build out of business initiatives.  

  • Responsible for initiating and maintaining relationships and partnerships with various corporate marketing staff to align business initiative implementation activities with the overall company communication channels. 

  • Initiate and present training to maximize key stakeholders’ knowledge of new and existing business initiatives. 

  • Facilitate disseminating information to office locations and project teams as part of the overall communications and project management process.

  • Monitor project deadlines and benchmarks and support monthly progress reports covering action items and progress updates.

  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate on-site and off-site meetings. This may include project orientation and training, stakeholder meetings, team meetings, periodic reviews, etc.

  • Coordinate personnel's required training programs and records in conjunction with the corporate training department and project requirements.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, organization development, social sciences, or related field.

  • 3 years of work-related experience.

  • 2 years' experience developing and executing strategies.

  • Prior related consulting experience preferred.

  • Basic knowledge in standard change management techniques, principles, and procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
