Burns & McDonnell Contracts Specialist -Legal (Kansas City, MO) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

The Contracts Specialist is responsible for analyzing and negotiating contracts in adherence with company and client requirements. This is a non-billable position that sits within the legal department onsite at our World Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. This individual will work closely with the company’s legal, insurance, procurement, and construction teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist project teams with negotiations of the following agreements: subcontracts, purchase orders (engineering equipment and commodities), engineering services, geotech services, non-disclosure agreements, and others. Negotiations take place via different methods - exchanging documents, conference calls, and face-to face meetings

  • Review project-specific flowdowns to corporate templates

  • Assist project team with drafting of formal letters/notices to suppliers, subcontractors, and consultants

  • Liaison between project teams and attorneys on complex issues

  • Other duties as assigned by the Contracts Manager and legal department. Such duties may include: reviewing Client non-disclosure agreements, reviewing corporate event contracts, drafting formal letters to Clients, redlining Professional Service Agreements, drafting addendums, etc.

  • Minimal travel anticipated.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree required, and at least 5 years’ experience supporting senior level attorneys or executives, preferably in the architecture/engineering consulting or construction industries, or the legal field.

  • Must have strong knowledge of commonly used legal processes, practices and procedures.

  • Must be able to manage and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner, meeting applicable deadlines.

  • Requires strong analytical ability, critical thinking, problem solving and research skills.

  • Must be a self-starter who can work independently with minimal guidance.

  • Must be detail oriented and have strong organization skills.
