Burns & McDonnell Director - Software Solutions - 1898 & Co. (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

The 1898 & Co Software Solutions Director is responsible for guiding the Technology Consulting group through creation of commercial software, productization of custom software tools, and delivery of custom software development to customers globally. This role will work closely with our electric utility industry customer base to identify a wide range of opportunities to add value through adoption of digital solutions. They will be responsible for the full commercialization process of software solutions working collaboratively across the Burns & McDonnell organization to bring internal stakeholders together and clearly articulating components of the business case from executive summary through detailed plan. They will build ongoing investment strategies and maintain product roadmaps aligned with Technology Consulting business goals. They will maintain and be accountable for executing the business line plan which details the strategic approach to providing software solutions to markets aligned with all Burns & McDonnell industry verticals.

The ideal candidate will align with the following experience:

  • Broad experience creating and managing the lifecycle of commercial software

  • Experience building software solutions to meet practical business needs of customers

  • Previous roles that engaged with external customers in a consulting capacity

  • Working with a wide range of stakeholders to build and execute plans for software creation and commercialization

  • Preparing strategic business line plans focused on service definition and profitable growth

  • Solving problems with software tools that lead to results with business impact for customers

  • Developing customer relationships and winning work

  • Working with customers to identify requirements and design solutions

  • Growing commercial software business through early phases to mature operations

Role Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain business line plan that contributes to the accomplishment of Technology Consulting goals

  • Work through Burns & McDonnell's existing relationships and direct with customers to identify business opportunities

  • Set strategic goals for business line performance

  • Plan technical team operations, near and long term, in conjunction with other technology leaders

  • Manage software solution asset portfolio, accountable for the execution of software solutions programs

  • Direct efforts of product owners and maintain strong relationships with subject matter experts

  • Coordinate with technical architects to define delivery platforms and new technology adoption

  • Direct team through productization of custom software solutions evolving them into enterprise-ready solutions

  • Partner with marketing and sales teams to develop commercialization plans

  • Ensure software solutions are properly documented and documentation is maintained

  • Partner with stakeholders to develop market intelligence related to competing products and technology trends

  • Champion the software solutions agenda inside the company and with customers

  • Publish technical material and contribute to thought leadership in the software community

  • Build internal and external relationships around software and technology best practices

  • Lead organization planning in conjunction with technical staff

  • Contribute subject matter expertise for the pursuit of new business opportunities

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Anticipated travel: up to 25%

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program. A minimum of 13 years of relevant consulting experience.

  • MBA preferred.

  • Excellent business acumen with proven success managing consulting engagements.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly and efficiently interpret large data sets.

  • Ability to uncover customer needs, develop recommendations and deliver them persuasively.

  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong understanding of financial concepts.

  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
