Burns & McDonnell Electrical Engineer / Water in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

The Staff Electrical Engineer designs and specifies electrical systems associated with municipal drinking and wastewater pumping facilities and treatment plants. Electrical systems include low and medium-voltage power, lighting, SCADA and process controls, voice/data networking, fiber optics, emergency power systems, UPS, security systems, CCTV, and fire alarm. Candidate will lead and assist in the execution of complex projects requiring the use of advanced techniques for the preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, and studies from inception to completion. Candidate must be capable of collaborating with multi-disciplined teams across multiple office locations.

Qualifications

Candidate shall have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program and a minimum of four years related experience in the design of electrical systems. The completion of a master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience. Experience in the design and execution of municipal water/wastewater treatment facilities via design-bid-build, design-build, or other alternative delivery methods a plus. Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication, as well as strong analytical and problem solving skills. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to a broad area of assignments. Candidate must be capable of devising new approaches to solve complex problems. Previous experience with similar consulting firms is preferred. Professional engineer license is not required; however, candidate must be on a path to obtain licensure. Proficiency in AutoCAD, REVIT and other software packages, including SKM or ETAP is desired. Candidate should have a working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC), 70E, and 820. Applicable design experience could include power systems studies (load flow and short circuit analysis, coordination and arc flash studies), lighting systems, and network design for municipal and government facilities.
