Our Kansas City office is looking for a Field Civil Engineer to support our growing Aviation and Federal practice. This role will require regional travel up to 9 months per year to work at client sites. Projects are typically located at airports and often are within the Airport Operations Area (AOA) secured area.

The Field Civil Engineer position includes the oversight of daily construction activities to provide compliance with the design documents. Oversight will include documentation of daily activities, completion of regulatory forms, management/coordination of other field inspectors, continual coordination with the contractor, and regular communication with project design manager for the duration of the construction project.

Responsible for the oversight of the following project work activities:

  • Earth work, site grading, flatwork (asphalt and concrete), surveying and site layout, concrete installation, deep foundations, underground piping, grounding, and duct banks.

  • Oversee construction effort, which includes: efficient use of materials and equipment, material management, safety and quality, engineering, and contractual performance of the project.

  • Responsible for subcontractor contractual compliance on designated civil construction related activities.

  • Build effective client and subcontractor relationships. Interface with client representatives, A/E representatives, and other contractors.

  • Collaborate with project management to develop and implement project procedures, working documents, and standards.

  • Authorize purchase requisitions, field design change requests, etc., under supervision of Construction Manager and Project Manager.

  • Read, interpret, and understand site layout, structural, foundation and underground drawings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from accredited program.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience).

  • A minimum of 5 years of pavement (concrete or asphalt) construction experience for FAA projects is required. Knowledge of standard FAA concrete and asphalt pavement testing process and procedures is recommended

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work in the field and travel up to 9 months per year to work at client sites.

  • This position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.

  • Completion of FE exam.
