Burns & McDonnell Hydraulic Modeling Specialist - Water (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri
Burns & McDonnell’s Water Practice is in search of a Staff Hydraulic Modeling Specialist for its growing Water Practice’s Planning group. The Planning group focuses on providing water, wastewater, and stormwater master plans and program planning services. Services include field services evaluations and flow monitoring, risk assessment and rehabilitation planning, hydraulic modeling, asset management services, and data analytics. We work with small and large communities to provide cost-effective solutions to current and future infrastructure needs.
The Staff Hydraulic Modeling Specialist will partner with engineering, field and administrative staff on a wide variety of water distribution, wastewater collection and/or stormwater planning projects. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.
Key competencies in this role include:\
Develop and conduct hydraulic modeling activities for complex wastewater collection systems, water distribution systems, and/or stormwater conveyance systems using state-of-the-art software.
Develop flow and rainfall monitoring plans; analyze flow and rainfall data.
Coordinate and assess a variety of field investigations and field surveys.
Responsible for the verification and preparation of maps, illustrations, databases and other various data sources relating to water resource systems using today's analytical software and visualization tools.
Assist with water distribution, wastewater collection and/or stormwater system capital planning and project need assessments.
Develop geographic information system (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS) maps and mobile applications to collect data.
Review, interact and support various assignments requiring use of asset management and other computer maintenance and management system (CMMS) software.
Maintain detailed and accurate project records.
Maintain task/project budgets and schedules.
Prepare technical memorandums and participate in internal and external technical presentations and proposals.
Support development of technical reports and make appropriate recommendations based on completed analyses.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Associate's or Bachelor’s degree (bachelor's degree preferred) in civil engineering technology or related field from an accredited program. Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Minimum of 8 years related experience.
Strong interest in planning related to water, wastewater and stormwater systems
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
High level of attention to detail with ability to self-QC work.
Proficiency in database management and data analytics using today’s innovative technologies.
Experience in one or more of the following software packages is preferred: InfoSewer, InfoSWMM Sewer GEMS, XP-SWMM, InfoWorks ICM, WaterCAD, SWMM 5 WaterGEMS, InfoWater, and EPANet.
Experience in hydraulic modeling required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access SharePoint).
Proficient in ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro
