Burns & McDonnell International Business Specialist in Kansas City, Missouri


The International Business Specialist will work in collaboration with the Director of International Projects, the International business team, the Burns & McDonnell Corporate Marketing (MARCOM) group, and other parties to develop, execute, and lead international business planning activities and any other associated international strategic marketing and administrative activities.

  • Responsible for international business analytics and reporting related to global business plans and development efforts.

  • Lead the production of financial and operational reports/ assessments to be included in business plans and organized by country or market. These internal reports/assessments will be presented to Accounting and other relevant internal departments.

  • Analyze international business performance metrics to reveal trends, correlations, dependencies, and gain other insights.

  • Responsible for providing research, modeling, analysis and guidance using techniques pertinent to international business markets and industries.

  • Assist in recommending and implementing international business processes that support both internal and external resources as well as business development opportunities.

  • Lead international and marketing projects as project manager; plan, forecast, report and execute initiatives as they relate to all international business opportunities and marketing initiatives within T&D. Responsible for ensuring strategy and deliverables meet the business needs.

  • Lead international business development teams in key opening and middle game activities to include: conduct market research; analysis of clients and competitors; and collaborate to develop value propositions and pre-request for proposal (RFP) collateral and opportunity tracking in Customer Relationship Management (CRM).

  • Participate in business planning and regular strategy meetings; monitor status of key initiatives and provide regular status reports to leadership team as needed.

  • Lead implementation of marketing plans and materials designed to achieve established business goals.

  • Prepare business cases, reports, and presentations for management and Director of International Projects.

  • Recommend and implement reporting process improvements throughout international support groups and activities.

  • Responsible for quality reviews and consistency for all business development and execution activities.

  • Recommend strategic direction and implementation on integrated international business development campaigns to include digital, social, advertising, thought-leadership, public relations, events and tradeshows.

  • Develop client-focused strategies and action plans that respond to client challenges and issues, and create a competitive advantage for the firm to successfully obtain the work.

  • Develop and manage all international proposal plans, draft storyboards, development of proposal/win strategy, proposal team assignments, and initial proposal management plan. Lead team reviews and adjust marketing materials in response to review results.

  • Lead external and internal analysis, including opportunity analysis, client profile, competitors, management and price solutions and developing action plans for contract and contingency.

  • Develop Issues, Features, Benefits, Proofs (IFBP), win themes and value propositions and participate in the development of the Request for Proposal (RFP).

  • Plan and manage international meetings, trade shows, and customer events by identifying, assembling, and coordinating requirements; establishing contacts; coordinating mailing lists; determining marketing giveaways and collateral.

  • Attend professional association meetings and conferences; and build professional network.

  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field.

  • MBA preferred.

  • Position requires a minimum five years experience with international marketing and business development projects.

  • Experience in prior project management, business analysis, business case studies, operations reporting and analytical modeling preferred.

  • Expert technical skills in financial reports and modeling.

  • Expert multi-lingual skills required, Spanish preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with international marketing and business development projects strongly preferred.

  • Experience building effective relationships with multinational companies and clients.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, organize and coordinate all elements of international proposals, customer presentations, internal and external events, business planning, social media, and international market research.

  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

  • Must be able to work independently, prioritize and multitask; maintain a strong business network and professional image; support a team environment with a positive, can-do attitude; work outside of normal office hours may be required to meet deadlines, attend events, etc.

  • Must be expert in document production using Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator, and in presentation production using Microsoft PowerPoint.

  • Expert multi-lingual skills required, Spanish preferred.
