Burns & McDonnell International Tax Manager - Corporate Accounting & Finance (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri


The international tax manager is responsible for all aspects of international tax that impact Burns & McDonnell. This role will have high visibility within Burns & McDonnell as a result of consulting business leaders on complex tax issues associated with the company’s expanding international footprint. The international tax manager will report to the tax director and will be supported by senior and staff tax analysts.

  • Coordination of all foreign tax filings for Burns & McDonnell’s growing worldwide operations, including income tax, transaction tax, tax withholding, and payroll tax filings.

  • Research international tax issues, prepare technical memos on international tax positions, and provide international tax advice to key stakeholders and business partners

  • Review and monitor preparation of local tax compliance obligations in a variety of jurisdictions, including corporate income tax returns, indirect tax returns, and other informational filings

  • Manage tax aspects of the company’s expatriate program, including tax equalization processes

  • Design and execute transfer pricing strategies, including maintenance of transfer pricing documentation

  • Review and monitor the preparation of US outbound tax compliance obligations related to foreign operations, including Forms 5471 and 8858

  • Respond to and resolve international tax notices and audits

  • Build, develop, and maintain relationships across the company to understand the business and optimize tax positions

  • Support efforts to identify and capture tax incentives

  • Manage multiple projects and communicate results to tax director and finance leadership

  • Drive innovation and transformation within the tax organization

  • Assist Tax Director with international tax planning.

  • Conduct all other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)

  • CPA and/or Master’s degree in Taxation / Accounting or JD (preferred)

  • Minimum four to six (4-6) years of broad corporate tax experience in public accounting or comparable private accounting, including two (2) years experience in international tax area; prefer seven (7) years of relevant experience in public accounting or ten (10) years of combined experience in public and private accounting

  • Experience with international income tax principles (required), international indirect tax principles (preferred), transfer pricing principles (preferred), and expatriate tax principles (preferred)

  • Candidates must possess the ability to work with internal accounting staff and worldwide international tax consultants.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Possess strong attention to detail and good organizational skills

  • Possess strong leadership and communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be proficient in basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
