Burns & McDonnell Investment Manager - Accounting & Finance (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

The Investment Manager role will lead a variety of investment team activities, primarily focused on investments that have a strategic impact on Burns & McDonnell’s business. This role will support the advancement of the framework and strategy around how these strategic investments are evaluated, selected, and executed across the organization. The Investment Manager will also work closely with the rest of the Investments team to perform other key asset management activities for the company’s multiple investment pools.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the investment deal flow process to screen, analyze, diligence, make recommendations, and execute new investment opportunities for Burns & McDonnell, particularly focused on opportunities that have a strategic impact for the company.

  • Lead and perform in-depth financial modeling, market research, legal review, and other due diligence activities, including evaluating & executing investments in alternative assets such as real estate, private equity, or M&A transactions.

  • Lead the development and implementation of new processes and organizational framework related to how the company evaluates and executes these investment strategies.

  • Develop and present an investment thesis, diligence results, and investment recommendations to top executives in the Investment Committee to facilitate the decision-making process.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with external capital and investment partners, such as banks, investment managers, private funds, development firms, and similar groups.

  • Support the development and build-out of other private markets investments strategies across multiple institutional-scale portfolios.

  • Participate in other portfolio management activities, such as building investment policy, setting asset allocation targets, overseeing third-party asset managers, and other related activities.

  • Support broader capital allocation strategies and cash management processes to develop and inform the investment approach.

  • Leverage and maintain technology solutions, as applicable, to efficiently monitor and report portfolio activities and performance.

  • Lead special investment or other finance-related projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or other Business-related field is required.

  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in an investment-related field, preferably with experience in private investment transactions such as private equity, venture capital, real estate, investment banking, M&A, or similar backgrounds.

  • Additional certifications, such as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), are desirable but not required.
