Burns & McDonnell Legal Intern in Kansas City, Missouri
The Legal Intern will have the opportunity to work collaboratively in the day-to-day work experiences of in-house attorneys at a major engineering firm and gain experience exposed to contract law and litigation practice, primarily in the areas of engineering, construction, environmental and general corporate law.
Assist with legal research, analysis, interpretation and application of laws and regulations.
Assist with preparation of briefs and memoranda.
Assist with responses to discovery requests.
Assist with contract drafting, review and edits.
Assist with document files and contract organization.
Prepare information for staff meetings and seminars.
All other duties as assigned.
Actively enrolled in accredited Juris Doctor degree program and current 2L or 3L student. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture from an accredited program.
Must be currently enrolled in good standing. Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship, in the country where this position is located, for the duration of the internship.
