Burns & McDonnell Legal Intern in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

The Legal Intern will have the opportunity to work collaboratively in the day-to-day work experiences of in-house attorneys at a major engineering firm and gain experience exposed to contract law and litigation practice, primarily in the areas of engineering, construction, environmental and general corporate law.

  • Assist with legal research, analysis, interpretation and application of laws and regulations.

  • Assist with preparation of briefs and memoranda.

  • Assist with responses to discovery requests.

  • Assist with contract drafting, review and edits.

  • Assist with document files and contract organization.

  • Prepare information for staff meetings and seminars.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in accredited Juris Doctor degree program and current 2L or 3L student. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture from an accredited program.

  • Must be currently enrolled in good standing. Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship, in the country where this position is located, for the duration of the internship.
