This corporate marketing opportunity is an onsite position located at our World Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. The manager will drive and develop the strategic vision promoting our brand, culture, recruitment and industry thought leaders.

In addition to providing best practices in PR for trade and business publications, the department manager will lead efforts to evolve our PR strategy to secure premier national media placements to amplify our brand awareness and to be the most remarkable voice in the AEC industry.

The manager will lead a team focused on the following corporate services:

* Global Public Relations (PR)

* Executive Communications

* The Foundation

* Human Relations (HR)

* Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

The department manager will work collaboratively with the managers who lead content development, as well as the marketing and PR business partners to align and amplify messaging, campaigns and national media efforts.

  • Manage and mentor the marketing and PR business partners leading global public relations, The Foundation, HR and DEI.

  • Manage efforts to develop strategic marketing and PR efforts for HR to recruit top talent and position thought leaders.

  • Manage efforts to develop strategic marketing and PR efforts to diversity, equity and inclusion positioning Burns & McDonnell as as a thought leader in this space.

  • Lead team to develop and execute integrated marketing and public relations efforts for The Foundation to promote our STEM and charitable outreach locally and nationally.

  • Manage team to develop public relations strategies and execution of industry conferences, webinars and experiential events.

  • Lead the team in identifying and promoting our people and projects in awards tied to media outlets.

  • Oversee national thought leadership efforts that involve paid, earned, shared and owned opportunities.

  • Lead best practices to build relationships with media, including trade and business editors, to drive thought leadership through national media placements.

  • Manage relationships and drive collaboration with marketing and PR agencies where applicable.

  • Lead collaboration among business partners serving regional, national and international markets and the firm’s business units at the world headquarters to promote alignment of messaging, recruitment and national media outreach.

  • Collaborate with internal communications to identify opportunities for cross-collaboration and external promotion.

  • Provide leadership to the team; direct and coordinate work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, effective utilization of staff.

  • Manage department budget and expenditure of funds.

  • Drive recruitment, development, training and retention of staff.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for department staff.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department.

  • Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to staff.

  • Develop strategy for national brand media opportunities, including interviews, events and more.

  • Monitor news within our industry to identify aligned thought leadership opportunities and to share with internal stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain media relationships with key trade and business publications, as well as develop new relationships with targeted aspirational media (ex. Fast Company, Inc., etc).

  • Identify fresh opportunities to garner positive media attention, such as events, stunts and more.

  • Support all c-suite public relations and media opportunities.

  • Collaborate with the Thought Leadership Committee to develop thought leadership strategies for the firm.

  • Collaborate with the content manager to develop efficiencies and alignment between owned and earned media.

  • Develop and execute crisis management strategies.

  • Manage vendors and team members to develop an efficient program to track and analyze media engagement.

  • Manage PR monitoring and database vendors.

  • Develop and lead regular training for marketing and PR colleagues.

  • Create and implement media trainings for thought leaders.

  • Continue to evolve our approach to developing strong media relationships via desksides, etc.

  • Innovate the firm’s PR strategies via outside learning opportunities such as virtual and in-person conferences and educational programs.

  • Ensure all internal clients are fully prepared for interviews, speaking opportunities and events by developing briefing documents with background information and talking points.

  • Lead efforts to monitor and measure all national media coverage, including developing client-facing media reports.

  • Staff and manage national and executive interviews and media events.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related degree.

  • Minimum of five years of experience working in marketing and/or public relations.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.

  • Ability to develop strategic and innovative marketing and public relations strategies.

  • Ability to lead and promote excellent client service.

  • A self-starter with strong project management and organizational skills.

  • An innovator who continues to seek and implement best practices, new approaches and automation.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly present complex information.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Hubspot.
