Burns & McDonnell Project Accountant in Kansas City, Missouri
The Project Accountant is responsible for accounting, budgeting and financial analysis, and/or financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, budgeting guidelines, statutes and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). The project Accountant is also responsible for preparing and/or analyzing financial records and documents, financial systems, financial statements, budgets, and other related documents.
Provide financial analysis and preparation of monthly financial reports and slides Company & Global Practice project-related results.
Perform and report monthly revenue reserve analysis.
Perform and report monthly reconciliation of Accounts Payable Sub ledger and Job Cost Sub ledger to the General Ledger including reconciliation of various month-end data files and statistics.
Interpret new accounting legislation to formulate solutions.
Responsible for knowing and interpreting GAAP legislation changes and implementing those changes into every day work activities, including monthly reconciliations.
Review and post weekly journal entries for Job Cost system as well as clearing and adjusting entries as needed.
Reconcile various balance sheet accounts monthly. Assist project managers and project teams in updating monthly project financials.
Perform Job Cost system set-ups as needed and assist with maintaining Job Cost System instructions. Ad hoc reports / analysis as requested.
Forecast revenues and project financials for Global Practices out to a two to five year window. Negotiate the contract to ensure the financial goals of the company can be met. Compile and provide feedback about project financials to the Project Manager.
Participate in user testing for system patches and upgrades.
Provide guidance and instruction to other staff member(s).
All other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
Minimum 4 years accounting/auditing experience.
Minimum 2 years in public accounting preferred but not required.
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft excel.
Problem solving skills.
Knowledge/experience with GAAP; FAR and other related federal, state and local regulations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
