Burns & McDonnell Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

Burns & McDonnell is an employee-owned firm and considered a leading consultant in the refined product terminals and hydrocarbon process industry. We have been and are engaged in terminal projects both large and small nationwide. We execute projects for major oil companies and other industrial clients, including pipeline terminals and truck, ship, and rail loading facilities.

Successful candidate would be experienced in the design and construction of refined product terminals and/or pipelines, potentially including:

  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards including NFPA 30, 72, 497, API500, 540, ISA 5.1, 5.4.

  • Familiarity with development of one-line diagrams, hazardous area classification, cable and raceway layouts, grounding requirements, and equipment specification sheets.

  • Familiarity with development of instrument data sheets, cause and effect matrices, P&IDs, PLC functional specifications, instrument schematics and loop diagrams.

Typical projects will include, but are not limited to, green-field / retrofit, design-bid-build, Engineer-Procure, or EPC Projects for storage and point of sale terminals, pipeline origination stations, pipeline valve stations, pipeline booster & compressor stations.Most projects will require frequent interaction with clients, acting as their trusted technical engineering and construction advisor, and development of safe, creative and cost-effective solutions to meet their sensitive budget and time constraints.

Candidate should be a self-driven leader capable of spearheading the execution of complex assignments requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods.Experience/familiarity with industrial systems and equipment including pump / compressor motors, PLC panels, motor control centers, SCADA and communication schemes.May develop and evaluate plans for major projects. May assess feasibility or soundness of proposed applications when data is insufficient or testing is advisable. May coordinate departmental or divisional project studies, reports or project design assignments.Progressive design and project management responsibilities.Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members. Regularly meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel.Some marketing responsibilities.Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Professional Engineer (P.E.) or the ability to obtain a PE license within 6 months is required with experience with other consulting firms and/or construction contractors.Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field from accredited program.Minimum 5 years related experience.Excellent written & verbal communication skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
