Burns & McDonnell Senior Enterprise Architect (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

As a Senior Enterprise Architect, you will lead and guide the enterprise stakeholders through transformation and optimization initiatives, supporting the formulation of business strategy, outcomes, and capabilities. The Enterprise Architect will be responsible for developing reference architecture (RA) and solution architectures that will be used for the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-wide solutions. In this role, you will be working closely with other members of the architecture team, the business, and IT stakeholders. 

The right candidate will have experience with a wide range of technologies, architecture and design patterns, methodologies, and frameworks, and should be able to provide thought leadership in the development of our technology roadmap. They will also be responsible for ensuring that our solutions are aligned with our business goals and objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate alignment between business and IT, and across the democratized IT landscape.  

  • Govern the Architecture outcomes across all EA domains – Business, Application, Information, Technology, and Security.  

  • Develop a holistic view of the Enterprise with Current State, Transition & Future states, gaps, and roadmaps. 

  • Adapt IT architecture to changing business and operating models. 

  • Analyze trends and disruptions and assess their impact on targeted business outcomes. 

  • Understand the business goals, objectives, and strategies of the company and align the IT architecture to support those goals. 

  • Work with stakeholders across the organization to define the requirements for new systems and applications.

  • Lead design comprehensive architectures for enterprise-wide solutions that are composable, scalable, reliable, and secure. 

  • Define systems, technical and application architectures for new projects or strategic initiatives.

  • Lead development of long-term plans for the evolution of the IT architecture in line with business goals and technical constraints. 

  • Responsible for documentation of current state, future state, and transition architectures for domains and solutions.

  • Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations on their adoption. 

  • Lead the implementation of new architectures and ensure that they are compatible with existing systems. 

  • Collaborate with solution and domain architects to ensure seamless integration with other business domains.

  • Coach and mentor other architects, product owners/managers and business stakeholders to instill architectural thinking. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline. Years of experience may be applied in lieu of a degree.

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience 

  • In-depth knowledge of at least three disciplines, such as business, information, solution or technical architecture, application development, middleware, information analysis, database management or operations.

  • Proven experience developing and leading enterprise-wide technology initiatives. 

  • Experience with cloud computing architectures and platforms. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Proven experience developing and leading enterprise-wide technology initiatives. 

  • Thorough understanding of current and emerging technologies, trends, and their potential application within the business 

  • Experience with cloud computing architectures and platforms. 

  • Knowledge or certification in TOGAF or other enterprise architecture frameworks.   

  • Sound knowledge of Cloud ecosystems Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Cloud Native Solutions. 

  • Demonstratable understanding of Architectural concepts and patterns such as SOA, APIs, RESTful, OAuth, OData, MSA, EDA, AI, etc. 

  • Understanding of business models, operating models, financial models, cost-benefit analysis, budgeting, and risk management. 

  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture tools, related graphical models, and frameworks. 

  • Effective leadership skills with exceptional soft and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation. 

  • Strong consulting skills such as targeted communications, engagement management,

  • Experience working in diverse and global organization. 

  • Composed in the face of opposition to architectural principles, governance, and standards. 

  • Highly innovative with aptitude for foresight, systems thinking and design thinking. 

  • Practical approach to problem solving and decision making.
