We are looking for an experienced proposal strategist who can support our business development team every step of the way. This position will lead proposal efforts in collaboration with business development and project management leadership to develop distinctive value propositions that enhance our competitive positions. We need an experienced proposal strategist who can…

  • Develop winning strategies and messages for proposals and collateral for a wide range of transportation infrastructure, from bike trails to complex interchanges and major river bridges. Our work improves the quality of life for communities large and small.

  • Support thought leaders throughout the country, including nationally recognized specialists in electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, safety, strategic planning, and alternative delivery. We are a diverse team with ambitious goals – help us tell our story!

  • Bring outstanding creative, organizational, and interpersonal skills to lead pursuit teams through challenging requirements and overlapping schedules. These skills and a flexible attitude are essential for building relationships at all levels of our organization and managing multiple deadlines in our dynamic environment.

  • Write and edit concise content that stays on message, meets client requirements, and adheres to firmwide style and brand guidelines. Our proposals must reflect Burns & McDonnell’s commitment to high quality and client success.

Responsibilities

  • Support opportunity identification, pre-positioning strategies, and pre-selling tactical efforts.

  • Lead development of and present the proposal plan; draft storyboards, and a proposal/win strategy.

  • Lead proposal team assignments and initial proposal management plan; support proposal teams to achieve quality, schedule, and content goals.

  • Present at internal review meetings and adjust proposal material in response to review and request.

  • Recommend proposal solutions during the go/no-go review and proposal kick-off.

  • Lead and present proposal graphics and visuals.

  • Write and/or edit proposal sections in support of key team members.

  • Review and manage post-submittal activities.

  • Lead pre-positioning and interview presentation development; lead presentation practice sessions.

  • Support submittals for industry awards.

  • Develop content for publications.

  • Support conference planning, client event planning and other marketing events.

  • Occasionally attend professional association, conference, networking, trade show and other events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, marketing, communications, or related field. and 8 years in marketing, business development, or sales with a professional services firm required.

  • Experience at an A/E firm preferred.

  • Applicable years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Superior technical writing abilities.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Graphic design skills preferred.

  • Experience with the Shipley best practice model a plus.

  • APMP certification a plus.
