We are seeking a self-motivated senior-level Environmental Remediation Engineer to join our successful team of professionals in Burns & McDonnell’s World Headquarters office in Kansas City. This individual will serve as a Remediation subject matter expert for a cutting-edge firm in the environmental industry, integrating new technologies and approaches to solve our clients’ most interesting and challenging problems.

The Senior Remediation Engineer will provide technical leadership for project teams and programs serving a portfolio of well-established clients and projects in the public and private market sectors. Responsibilities include technical project support, staff mentorship, support and/or leadership of technical initiatives, thought leadership and technical sales.

While located in Kansas City, this position is expected to support and provide technical leadership and mentoring to teams located across the country and abroad. This individual will leverage their understanding of innovative and conventional remediation technologies to develop unique approaches to addressing complex remediation challenges.

The successful candidate should possess a diverse site investigation and remediation technical background and significant remediation design and implementation experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop technical approaches and lead remediation design and execution for complex projects.

  • Design remedial actions, including the preparation of plans, specifications, and bid documents, and assist project managers in managing technical and logistical aspects of remediation projects.

  • Lead preparation of remediation project designs, including technology evaluation and selection, supporting calculations, plans and specifications, and project execution plans.

  • Remain current in remediation technology and implementation techniques.

  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members and support internal technical training and mentorship programs.

  • Provide thought leadership by attending conferences, publishing journal articles or white papers, and/or participating in professional organizations.

  • Support development of scopes of work and budgets for projects and proposals.

  • Support technical sales efforts.

  • Effectively balance billable and non-billable time.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental, civil, chemical, geological engineering, or related field, from an accredited curriculum.

  • Minimum 7 years (10 years preferred) of related environmental remediation experience, with a diverse background in remediation, geology, hydrology/hydrogeology, water treatment and/or related fields.

  • Strong understanding of and current knowledge of remediation technology, design practices and implementation methods. Significant capabilities and experience in in situ chemical/biological remediation are a plus.

  • Working knowledge of applicable CERCLA, RCRA and state-led regulations and regulatory programs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work within a team framework.

  • Self-motivation and the ability to multi-task (perform designs, analyze data, prepare technical documents, etc.) are also a prerequisite.

  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of project-related matters.

  • Aptitude, capability, and inclination to train, mentor, and develop junior and intermediate staff.

  • Ability to present complex technical information clearly, both verbally and in writing.

  • Existing client relationships are also a plus.

  • Travel is required and professional registration is preferred.
