Burns & McDonnell Senior Solution Architect - Civil Infrastructure (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

Burns & McDonnell’s Project Delivery Team is seeking a Solution Architect with civil infrastructure experience to provide solutions for our internal business lines.  The selected candidate will join the team focused on providing leadership, strategy, analysis and technology to ensure that solutions meet business needs and align with enterprise governance, standards, and security.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives to identify and deliver solutions to our business lines with a strong emphasis on teamwork, commitment, industry best practices, and continuous improvement.

  • Proactively and holistically lead activities that guide the development and management of a solution portfolio that includes platforms, applications, technologies, processes, and data.

The Solutions Architect will demonstrate key competencies:

Provide Enterprise Guidance

  • Provide deliverables like standard definitions, architecture designs and work processes.

  • Assess the impact of new and existing technology investment on the business.

  • Coordinate with internal teams to align solutions with enterprise data governance, resiliency, and risk analysis.

  • Responsible for providing strategic guidance, system and technology assessments, system road maps, research, planning, and industry best practices for our business leaders to make investment decisions that support the long-term vision of the organization.

  • Create deliverables for managing the organization's portfolio of "as is" and "to be" solutions that enable and drive business outcomes.

  • Apply knowledge and expertise of technology frameworks, integration frameworks, and data management practices to develop and deliver quality Enterprise solutions that meet enterprise objectives.

  • Actively participate in related technical committees, professional organizations, in seminars, trade shows, and conferences to promote Burns & McDonnell’s capabilities and experience, as a leader in our industries.

  • Write, and present strategies, technical papers, white papers, and business plans.

Assess and Apply Technology

  • Monitor the current-state solution portfolio to identify opportunities to improve or replace deficient technologies, or solutions misaligned with business requirements.

  • Understand emerging or disruptive technology and recognize opportunity for practical application to enable new and evolving business lines and operating models.

  • Analyze the technology, industry, competitors, and market trends, to determines potential implications for a given solution.

  • Analyze the business environment to detect critical deficiencies, legacy systems, or technical debt, and recommend solutions for resolution.

  • Lead evaluation, design, and analysis for solutions across a group of specific business applications or technologies based on enterprise business strategy, business capabilities, business requirements and enterprise standards.

  • Consultant on a broad range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to identify solutions that achieve targeted business outcomes.

  • Able to create, validate, document, and optimize solution requirements.

  • Develop, test, and lead the implementation of core solutions.

  • Able to conduct technology assessments and create technology roadmaps that address key business and technology drivers; providing feedback to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to lead high-level discussions and strategy reviews focusing on utilizing public and private cloud services to gain technical advantages that are otherwise out of reach.

Understand Business Needs

  • Translate business and technical requirements into an architectural blueprint to achieve business objectives.

  • Understand business drivers and capabilities (current and future state) and determine corresponding enterprise solution design and requirements to drive the organization's targeted business outcomes.

  • Understand the concepts and importance of business goals, objectives, outcomes, capabilities, and processes.

  • Application and technology knowledge, data and design methodologies, and general technical skills to implement core solutions with our business lines.

  • Assist business lines in defining and optimizing engineering work processes.

  • Apply industry experience and best practices to design, and implement, enterprise solutions to satisfy complex business requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, CAD or closely related field is preferred.

  • Relevant work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant industry and technology experience providing strategies, enterprise integrations, and services leveraging various applications and technical platforms.

  • Excellent enterprise solution and integration skills, including data architecture, integration architecture and other architectural methods and practices.

  • Experience leading or participating in a minimum of 3 large-scale enterprise transformation projects using industry enterprise strategy solutions.

  • Strong ability to influence or lead project execution.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with the industry specific technology.

  • Experience in integrating operational systems in Heavy Industrial industries is preferred.

Preferred:

  • Technology neutral: remains unbiased toward any specific technology or vendor and is more interested in results than personal preferences.

  • Experience delivering presentations to senior-level executives and managers.

  • Travel to customer and industry partner facilities to conduct advanced technical sessions. 

  • Assist with vendor management (Bentley Systems Inc).

  • Maintain a working knowledge of best practices relative to the management, control, administration, and use of the respective applications.

Preferred Technical Experience:

  • System Administration.

  • Creation of SSO user accounts.

  • Assignment of entitlements and credits.

  • Creation of project groups.

  • Creation of Engineering Content, Drawings, Models and Data Collection Forms.

  • Creation of design roles and personas.

  • Understanding of when to use a project hub and how to create it.

  • Thorough understanding of various engineering platforms, applications, and extensions. (MicroStation, ProjectWise, Syncro, OpenRoads, OpenSite, AssetWise)

  • Understanding of how to leverage public API’s to access and manipulate data.
